Comprehensive Land Use Plan
Preserving Our Past, Securing Our Future
The Board of Trustees approved the Copley Township Land Use Plan at its meeting on September 16, 2009. After 2.5 years of work by the Steering and Technical Committees, Township staff and consultants, the final product was recommended unanimously by the Steering Committee and Board of Trustees.
The final document is a guide for future development in the Township. The document begins with current conditions within the Township as to land use, zoning, population and environmental conditions and includes the desires of the residents in what they would like to see in the future. The residents put a strong emphasis on preserving natural land features, taking advantage of environmental conditions that are favorable to the Township
taking advantage of environmental conditions that are favorable to the Township and limiting growth to those areas outlined in the Joint Economic Development District or land currently zoned Commercial or Industrial.
It is the intent of the Steering Committee to ensure that this plan is reviewed periodically throughout the ten year period it covers to accommodate any changes or to allow the Township to take advantage of new development tools that may become available.
Zoning Resolution & Classifications
The Township now takes on the task of re-writing the Zoning Resolution and reviewing all the Zoning Classifications in the current code. The rewrite of the Zoning Resolution is needed to make sure that the Resolution is in alignment with the ideas, desires and goals of the Land Use Plan. The new Zoning Resolution will also include new land use items such as wind turbines, storm water requirements and new enterprises that were not developed or available when the current Zoning Resolution was adopted. The Township anticipates this task to take approximately 12 to 15 months.
