The Architectural Review Board is authorized under Ohio Revised Code 519.171 effective 11-05-2004 and amended 05-27-2015. The Board is composed of five members and two alternates appointed by the Copley Township Board of Trustees of which three of whom are architects, landscape architects, engineers, building designers and other design professionals. Ititial terms are for one year and commence January 1.
The ARB meets on the 1st Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the North Meeting Room, 1540 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road.
The Ohio Revised Code is very specific in its requirement that all public bodies must hold meetings which are open to the public. Meetings of the township trustees are included in this scope of the law, which is called the Ohio Sunshine Law (O.R.C.121.22). The trustees must maintain records of township business and activities. These records must be made available to the public for inspection at all reasonable times during regular business hours.
The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five residents appointed by the Copley Township Board of Trustees to staggered five-year terms. The Copley Township Board of Trustees has appointed two alternates to sit on the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The B.Z.A. meets upon request, when there is an application pending before the Board. The B.Z.A. meetings are held on scheduled Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in the North Room of the Town Hall. The B.Z.A. holds public hearings on the following applications: Variances, Conditionals, Change in Non-Conforming Use and Extension of Non-Conforming use.
Generally, there are one or two meetings per month.
The Township Zoning Commission consists of five residents appointed by the Trustees to five-year terms. The terms are staggered so the term of one member expires each year. The Zoning Commission meets regularly for the purpose of developing and maintaining a plan regulating land use within the Township. This plan, set forth both in texts and maps,indicates permitted and prohibited uses of all land within theTownship. Actions of the Zoning Commission are subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees.
