The Copley Police and Fire Departments are interested in creating a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). CERT is designed to educate residents on the subject of disaster preparedness. The sessions will begin in April and are intended to inform citizens about hazards that may impact the Copley Township area. Copley Police and Fire personnel will instruct attendees on the basic skills required to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace immediately following a disaster.
Areas covered during the training include individual and family emergency preparedness, emergency medical response, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster response. CERT members practice their skills by taking part in hands-on exercises and activities.
In order for members to maintain their skills and continually learn new skills, members will be required to attend monthly meetings/trainings. Copley CERT members will also have an opportunity to participate in the Summit County CERT training program which is 16 hours of instruction sponsored by the Summit County Citizens Corps.
Please consider being part of the Copley Township CERT program, to serve families impacted when disaster strikes. Registrations are being accepted through March 2013. For more information or to register for the CERT training, please contact Sue Mack at Copley Township Town Hall.
