Abandoned / Junk Motor Vehicles: The Copley Township Police enforces Summit County Ordinances and Ohio Statutes that prohibit the storage of abandoned, junk, or unlicensed motor vehicles on property within Copley Township. Any unlicensed or junk motor vehicle may be stored within a completely enclosed building.
All Terrain Vehicles (ATV's): Limited use of All Terrain Vehicles is permissible within Copley Township. The use of these vehicles on public roadways is illegal in most parts of the Township. In addition, if the use of these vehicles creates a disturbance, operators may be cited for violations of the Summit County Noise Ordinances.
Curfew: Children under the age of 18 years are not permitted to be on the streets or sidewalks of the township between the hours of 11:00 pm and 5:00 am. For additional details, see Summit County Ordinance 539.09.
Drug Activity: The Copley Police Department is a participating member of the Summit County Drug Unit. Specially trained undercover officers investigate complaints of illegal drug activity. Complaints of this nature may be made to the Dispatch Center, 330-666-8866, or the Detective Bureau at 330-670-2701 or 670-2705. You may remain anonymous.
Fireworks: Ohio law clearly prohibits persons from discharging, igniting, or exploding any fireworks in this state. This is particularly frustrating because many local businesses are permitted to sell fireworks to those individuals who intend to take them out of the state within 48 hours. Copley Police will respond to any calls reporting the illegal use of fireworks. These items will be confiscated and criminal charges can be filed against any violators. These items can be very dangerous and often disturb others in the neighborhoods where this illegal activity takes place.
Noise: The Summit County Council enacted a comprehensive noise ordinance to address the many complaints received by area police departments. This ordinance prohibits any loud unreasonable sounds that are a nuisance or menace to others in the community. Copley Police will respond to noise complaints and take appropriate action. For further information, see Summit County Ordinance 509.08.
Persons engaged in commercial enterprises, such as construction or remodeling, and/or private individuals working on their own homes, are not subject to the noise ordinance between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 pm.
Street Parking of Motor Vehicles: Many streets within in Copley Township are not currently restricted for motor vehicle parking. However, residents are cautioned to use common sense when parking on the street. Vehicles should not be parked in such a manner that would prevent other vehicles from passing through, particularly fire trucks and emergency medical vehicles, which are larger than most cars and trucks. Consequently, you should not park a vehicle on the street directly across from another vehicle. The police can tow vehicles parked in such a manner. From time to time, the police and road departments review streets within the township and can create no parking zones and signs are posted.
Transient Vendors: Resolution 17-2008 is a resolution prohibiting transient vendors from selling or soliciting orders within Copley Township, except for individuals who represent religious, charitable, or school groups.
