Bell Tower Dedication
Copley School, the first centralized school in the State of Ohio, was constructed in 1904.
The bell was commissioned and paid for on March 12, 1880 at a cost of $76.53. It was moved from the school building close to the road to the newly constructed 1904 school building which housed five teachers and 200 students.
1929 -- the Township Trustees purchased Copley School for use as a town hall. In 1933, a severe storm ripped the bell tower from the roof. The roof was repaired but the tower was not replaced. Instead, the bell was incorporated as part of the monument sign on the front lawn.
2007 -- A severe rainstorm caused more damage to the roof allowing water to seep into the tower as well as the 3rd floor.
2009 -- Township Trustees approved the roof repair and the restoration and replacement of the bell tower in its original location and construction of an elevator for handicap accessibility to the lower floor and to the third floor.
