Copley Township Zoning Commission has been working on a total re-write of the Township's Zoning Resolution. Ohio law requires a very specific procedure to be followed when a Township amends its zoning resolution. The procedure is a follows:
- The Zoning Commission prepares an amendment.
- Zoning Commission moves to recommend the amendment and refer it to the Summit County Planning Commission.
- After a review by Summit County Planning Commission, the amendments can be recommended as received, not recommended or recommended with modifications back to the Zoning Commission.
- Zoning Commission holds a public hearing on each amendment (or Article).
- The Zoning Commission reviews the recommendation from the Summit County Planning Commission and recommends the proposed amendment to the Board of Trustees.
- The Board of Trustees enters the amendment into their official docket and schedules a public hearing.
- The Board holds a public hearing on each proposed amendment (or Article). The Board of Trustees will consider comments made at the public hearing or received in writing when considering each proposed amendment.
- Within 20 days of the public hearing, the Board of Trustees shall either adopt or deny the recommendations or adopt some modification of them.
- Amendments are effective 30 days after approved by the Board of Trustees.
All meetings relating to any amendments to the Copley Township Zoning Resolution and/or map are open to the public. The public is encouraged to attend the meetings, public hearings and review the proposed amendments.
