Community Emergency Response Team
The Copley Police and Fire Departments created a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). CERT is designed to educate residents on the subject of disaster preparedness. CERT meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at Guardian Angels Church. Copley Police and Fire personnel will instruct attendees on the basic skills required to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace immediately following a disaster.
Areas covered during the training include individual and family emergency preparedness, emergency medical response, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster response. CERT members practice their skills by taking part in hands-on exercises and activities.
In order for members to maintain their skills and continually learn new skills, members will be required to attend monthly meetings/training. Copley CERT members will also have an opportunity to participate in the Summit County CERT training program which is 16 hours of instruction sponsored by the Summit County Citizens Corps.
