[ARCHIVED] NEW for 2024! Copley Police Department Regulations on Fireworks

FW Restrictions image

In July 2022, Ohio law changed to allow the purchase and discharge of consumer grade fireworks.  The Ohio Fire Marshal created rules to regulate fireworks use.  Detailed bullet points from the Ohio Fire Marshal’s office are included on the Copley Township website.

The Ohio Fire Marshal’s office was very clear in the establishment of rules pertaining to the setback distance between the point of fireworks discharge and buildings, property, and spectators.

These setback rules include a requirement for a minimum clearance of 150 feet between the point of fireworks discharge and any structures, including not only your own home but that of your neighbor’s.  The required setbacks in apartment and condominium complexes is 450 feet.

Due to these setback requirements, there very few, if any, locations in the following Copley neighborhoods where the legal discharge of fireworks can take place.  Consequently, the Copley Police and Fire Departments cannot allow the discharge of fireworks in these neighborhoods:

          Annabelle Estates                            Heritage Woods

            Bentley                                               Hillside

            Brenner Allotment                           Kingsbury

            Copley Heights                                  Ridgecrest

            Copley Meadows                              Swan Lake

            Creekstone                                         Westridge

            Druid Hills                                           Westview Estates

            Fox Tail                                                Windsor Park

            Hametown Woods

No apartment or condominium complexes have sufficient setback distance to allow for legal discharge of fireworks.

This list is not complete, as there are many more homes in our community that do not allow for the legal setback as required in Ohio law.

Please take the time to read the additional information on our website regarding fireworks regulations.

The purchase, possession, and discharge of fireworks in Copley Township is regulated by State Law. The following link will take you to a partial list of the restrictions imposed on persons that discharge fireworks in Copley Township.
